Safe QR scanning: beware of unsafe scanner apps | DynaTag

Warning: Not every QR scan app is safe
How to spot deception and protect your data
More and more people are using QR codes — convenient, fast, and usable everywhere. What many users don’t realize is that not every app that scans QR codes is trustworthy. Some so-called “QR scanner apps” on Android or iOS misuse the scan process to request payment details, display ads, or even collect data without consent.
How fraud via scan apps works
- The app displays its own interface instead of the browser, hiding which website is actually being opened.
- It injects ads or pop-ups, supposedly to keep the app “free”.
- It asks for payment details or “extra verification” that has nothing to do with the QR code.
In practice, it looks like you are scanning a DynaTag code — but in reality there is a middle layer involved: the app itself, which misleads you.
How to recognize a suspicious QR scan app
- The app asks for credit card or bank details after scanning.
- Ads or banners appear before or after opening the website.
- You see messages like: “Activate premium to open the link.”
- The app shows a different URL than the one printed on the product or packaging.
- The app tries to make you log in or register without a clear reason.
If you notice any of these signs: close the app immediately and rescan the QR code using your smartphone’s camera — not a separate scanning app.
How to safely scan a DynaTag code
- Open your phone’s camera (both Android and iPhone support this by default).
- Point the camera at the QR code.
- Tap the link that appears — it opens directly in your browser.
That’s it. No app. No tracking. No payment.
The only safe way to use DynaTag is via your browser — not through external QR scanning apps.
